Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

Will keep an eye on it - it's for hobby use so doesn't get that much use or abuse.

Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

So - after cleaning off all the grease and lubing up the Z screw with sewing machine oil - (light mineral oil?) I've not had one bit of bother.

It was 0C last night and the machine was perfect :D

It appears the grease is to blame - just in case someone randomly comes across a similar problem...

Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

Hi Martin. Thanks for the quick reply. That description sounds a bit like me - "I'm not thick - I'm just stable…" :D

Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

Any grease suggestions for the Z screw? Recommendation is Lithium No.2. Just seems a bit thick. Super Lube do a high viscosity PTFE Oil but can't get it here. I cleaned everything again today and I'm using a silicone grease - temporarily - and all is well. I read somewhere that sewing machine oil wa...

Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

Slow movements are fine. I can't control the speed when it's zeroing z though - it retracts full speed once it's zeroed. It's not the spindle as it works fine even if that's removed. The motor? Why would it be affected only by quick movements and be remedied by application of heat? It wont trigger a...

Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

What is the temp where the machine is? The operating environment is - Temperature: 5 to 40°C (41 to 104°F) humidity: 35 to 80 % (no condensation). Anything out of this range would make the machine potentially fail. Why though? What components are affected? That might help me pinpoint the issue. Che...

Re: EGX-400/600 TS-400 Z motor lock

It happens at summer temps +15°C and colder too. The heat gun trick seems to work in the middle of winter. This would suggest it's mechanical. There's no play anywhere I can see/feel. It's been cleaned and the screw lubed. It's the initial acceleration of a quick move that locks it up. Once it's wor...

Re: TS-400 Z motor lock

Ha - how bizarre! Pretty much a year to the day when I last had this problem. It must be that time of year again when I venture back in to the garage for dark night activities :D Anyway - same problem - it's doing my head in. It locks when retracting the cutting head - as in 'going up'. It's fine at...
